I’m so proud of all my flute and piano students who performed this afternoon! They have been working hard to prepare and it showed. The youngest first-time performers of course forgot all about taking a bow when they finished (it will come in time) but they charmed the audience nonetheless. My most advanced student has been working on theory of chords and the beginnings of arranging so she played a Disney tune with an added introduction she came up with at her lesson.
My favorite might be the duets because working together with another player to coordinate the music, even if someone slows down or misses a note, develops a whole other level of musical skill. We had two student piano duets today (bonus: the pairs are also friends) and we rounded out the concert with me playing a duet with a friend as well. Lyndi Knox joined me on clarinet for Robert Muczynski’s Duo for Flute and Clarinet.
Then all adjourned to the sunny reception in the garden with treats to celebrate, as always.
